[Geoserver-users] GeoTiff Coverage - units of feet

Using GeoServer for the first time (1.4.0-M2-WCS Beta), I was supplied some
GeoTiff images over New Jersey to use, and I created coverages in GeoServer
of the images. The problem is the GeoTiff images use units of feet, with a
SRS that has default units or meters (EPSG:32111). GeoServer did not convert
the envelope to units of meters. Since there is no way to specify the units
of the bbox in the GetMap I am stuck. Anybody else have this problem? Anyone
help where to dig into the source code?

I have no idea if this has been fixed in anyways, but you should upgrade to GeoServer 1.5.0-beta1. It's M2-WCS-beta, but with 6 months of updates, and completely WCS 1.0 spec compliant. So there's a decent chance this has been fixed.

We should probably make that more clear on the website - I think I did add at least one note to the WCS branch page.

How big is the coverage in therms of size on disk? I am thinking if
you can prehaps send it so I can try it out.

But in my understanding, your SRS should have the same units of
measure as your geotiff. You may have to define a projection if you
don't find one that matches the parameters from the geotiff.

I would recommend using 1.5.0 beta instead.

Sorry, but I am not sure to understand what this means. Could you
provide some further details?

GeoServer did not convert
the envelope to units of meters.

Same as above.

Well, providing that the SRS of your geotiff is handled correctly (if
not, we'll fix that  ) the only way to specify the units of your
BBOX (I am assuming we are talking about making WMS GetMap requests)
is by specifying the SRS in the request. WMS Specification says that
BBOX param has to be encoded according to the SRS param which itself
should contain (implicitly) unit of measures as needed.

Anyway, I think that providing a bit more details about what you are
doing would be of great help.

Regards,
Simone.
