[Geoserver-users] Geotiff overviews

Hi,
is it possible nowadays to use external overviews in geotiffs' in Geoserver or if it's not, are you planning on implementing such feature some day?

I believe there is no support for that. As for planned developments,
Simone basically own the GeoServer raster subsytem so I'll let
him speak on this one.

Ok,

background to my question is that I don't like the way GDAL creates overviews. I know there are many resampling algoritms available, like gauss starting from gdal 1.6.0, but I still don't regard the outcome satisfactory when creating overviews from maps with high contrast levels eg. "lineart maps". So I have let myself to understand that external overviews are tiff's, which could be created with some specific tool designed for resampling?
This very application of mine has Geoserver not so latest, 1.6.3 if I recall right, so maybe there has been some improvements of how GS does the rendering?

Ciao Mika,
quick answer about external overviews. They are currently not
supported in GeoTools/GeoServer, it would not be hard to add support
for them though.
