I have deployed a 2.3.1 and sometimes, with no errors in the logs, the layers are removed from the gwc management and on the client I get 404’s I have to go back to the layer tile-caching tab and reactivate them.

I can add that this problem occurs on GeoServer 2.3.1 running on Ubuntu,
Tomcat7 (Oracle 1.7.0_21 Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM) retrieving data
from PostGIS 2.0. We upgraded our application from GeoServer 2.1 running on
Ubuntu, Tomcat6 and PostGIS 1.5 and this problem does not occur with this
configuration.
