[Geoserver-users] Hindi Labels issue in SLD

Hello all,

I am using geoserver 2.5 version and am trying to use field whose values are
in hindi as label. I have used "Mangal Font" I do get labels in hindi but
not as is in postgres. Example is in enclosed. The identity tool gives the
right value where as label is rendered incorrectly. Please let me know if any
one has fix to it and where am i going wrong.

Can you add some details as the exactly what is wrong for those of us that don’t read Hindi. Is this actual letters that are wrong or just the ordering?

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,

The label sometimes has the same letters but not in order. And some times
letters are different on the labels from what is in the table. I have tried
with multiple fonts but no luck. Any help on this is really appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Praveen Kumar Bandi

As I said before since none of the core developers can read or write Hindi (to my knowledge) we are going to need a step by step guide to the problem and pictures and text that show us what the label should be and what it actually is.

Ideally we need a java test case that we can run to show the defect then when (if) we fix the issue the test will pass and we will know it works.

There is a “bug stomp” scheduled for Monday if you would like to help out it would be great! Ian Turton has outlined some of what we need in order to work on this.

The labeling occurs in the geotools project; we make use of Java 2d when drawing labels - can you confirm that Java 2d can draw Hindi labels? There was also some work to do character by character labels along roads which may need to be double checked for bi-directional languages.
