[Geoserver-users] How to import VMap0 with VPF Extension to GeoServer?

I downloaded the v0sas.tar.gz, v0noa.tar.gz and v0eur.tar.gz from
http://geoengine.nima.mil/geospatial/SW_TOOLS/NIMAMUSE/webinter/vmap0_legend.html.

I don't know if I have to install some additional libraries, like gdal,
proj4, ogdi etc. to use the "VPF import" of the GeoServer. I thought it's
already in it.

For what it's worth I'm seeing exactly the same problem.
Geoserver 1.6.2.a, gt2-vpf-2.4.1.jar, Windows XP SP2.

Trying to add a VPF product with URL "file:/data/v0eur/vmaplv0/eurnasia"

produces the message

    * Could not read file:
D:\GeoServer\data_dir\data\v0eur\vmaplv0\eurnasia. Perhaps it has wrong
permissions or is corrupted?
    * Provided parameters can not be processed

There appears to be nothing relevant in geoserver.log. The directory exists
and contains a lht file (the VPF data is all downloaded from the NIMA site
listed above), and everything in the file hierarchy is readable by everyone.
And NIMAMUSE Fusion can read the VPF, so there's no evidence of corruption.

TIA.

GeoServer has an extension VPF datastore you can try to use, but it's been umaintained for a very long time.
If you have interest and java developer abilities I'd suggest you try
to fix the VPF datastore, otherwise suggest you can use ogr2ogr to
transform your VPF data into shapefiles and go from there.

Cheers
Andrea

By my experience with Mapserver, shapefiles or PostGIS are much
faster to use than VPF. I would consider VPF as data transfer
format. Of course sometimes it would be nice to be able to
have a quick look at the data without a need to conversion to
some other format first.

Dear Sir, I notice that you have downloaded v0sas.tar.gz. On the other hand, i
have not been able to download the same because my internet speed is 12kbps as i
access it through basic inmarsat terminal. The ftp site seems to have some kind
of time limit per download. Hence on a slow connection speed, it is impossible
to download the complete file.

It would be highly grateful of you to send me a link to an alternate ftp site,
to my email address, to which, i can access at slow speed and download complete
file.

thanking you in anticipation.
