To the best of my knowledge no external process is changing those files. Also the changed id has the same format, so I would assume it comes from GeoServer.

Subject: Re: [Geoserver-users] id changed in style’s XML file
Usually his happens when some manual process outside of GeoServer is modifying the data directory or something like that. Is there any of that going on?

I have the problem that occasionally a style’s id is changed in its XML file, leaving many layers without a default style and hence unusable.
For example, I will find that in this raster.xml file:
StyleInfoImpl-4e0b98bf:12475d46fdd:-7fe2
raster
raster.sld
suddenly the has changed for no apparent reason. Since the used in layer.xml does not exist anymore, the layer cannot be displayed.
What triggers the change of the ? Is there any way to prevent that other than making the file read-only?
Thanks, Felix
