[Geoserver-users] IIS and Geoserver

I apologize if this has been answered before, but can geoserver function without installing Apache Tomcat on IIS running on windows server 2008 R2?

Mark,

Yes, that is what I am running. I do not have Apache Tomcat installed.

The requirement is a java servlet/server of some kind, that could be jetty, tomcat, jboss etc. Jerome doesn't mention which one he's using but I see plenty of instructions on how to use Jetty under IIS.

Note that performance may be affected by your choice. Also note that Apache Tomcat is different from Apache HTTP. The latter is the direct competitor for serving regular webpages. Apache Tomcat can also be run behind IIS too.

Enjoy,
Alex

Can you access it via http://your.ip.address.here:8080/geoserver/web ?

Mark,

Are you by chance using a proxy? I use OpenLayers to access the data served by GeoServer, and I recall having to make sure my proxy host was setup correctly.

Mark,

Another thought, make sure that the port geoserver uses is not blocked by the firewall on the server.

Hope this helps,

Jerome

No, I cannot access it that way either. I suspect a permission issue, but I am not sure where geoserver/web/ points to on the server

Ciao mark,
can you access the logs and check if there are any obvious errors?

I installed the bin locally on my Win box and I can find those files here:

- C:\Users\User\Downloads\geoserver-2.2-SNAPSHOT\data_dir\logs this
contains a file called geoserver.log that contains the log of
geoserver itself
- C:\Users\User\Downloads\geoserver-2.2-ENTERPRISE-SNAPSHOT\logs this
contains the log of the embedded servlet container (jetty)

Notice that IMHO I would recommend using Tomcat together with the WAR
install of GeoServer, especially for production usage.

Finally figured it out, had to open the port in the router. Forgot that I shut most things down when I set up the VPN.
