We are experiencing some image compression issues within GeoServer and I have not been able to find the settings that would allow me to change things. We are using GeoSerer 2.4.3. Below are two images showing the original WMS source (OSM Server) and the GeoServer layers preview. The compression artifacts are most visible around the text of buildings and street names. I’ve tried adjusting the compression level within the WMS options, but since we are using PNG images, the compression does not seem to effect the image quality. Any suggestions on how to improve the image quality? Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Brice,
PNG uses lossless compression. It doesn’t produce compression artifacts. Adjusting the compression level only changes how hard the encoder tries to optimize the size of the image. That looks to me more like resampling. You might get something like this if you were reprojecting between two very similar but not quite identical projections. (at least very similar within the extent you’re looking at) or if the zoom levels of the original and the preview are close but don’t match up exactly.
