I'm using the image mosaic plugin to serve up 5 geoTIFF layers at different zoom-levels using <BaseMapGroup> .
One of the layers (at the smallest visible ScaleDenominator) does not have a complete coverage of the BaseMapGroup.
Is it possible to configure somehow to have it not rendering crosses when no tiff covers a particular area?
One (ugly?) idea is to have a shape layer containing one large polygon covering the basemap extent, styled white, at the very bottom.
Any other ideas?

That should be done automatically... yet, I'm not expert on the mosaic
plugin. Any chance you can make that mosaic available for us to test
with? (private mail, ftp or http link would be good, we won't divulge
your data).
