[Geoserver-users] ImageMosaik/Gdal Plugins Linux

Hi,

i've installed Geoserver 2.8.1 on CentOS.
I've added the gdal and oracle plugins from the official download repository
and installed gdal with MrSid-plugin in CentOS. If i prompt gdalinfo
--formats i can see that the gdal installation with all the plugins seems to
be successful, but the plugins from gdal don't appear as an option on the
new datastore page.
If i manually insert the URL with the MrSid-Images as a new Datastore i can
publish it as a new layer, but the images are all black. If i try to make
the layer manually i get the error "could not cerate reader from file..".
I've also tested the same set of plugins with the same MrSid-images on a
differnt server (Windows Server 2012) and everything seems to be fine.

I think that for any reason the geoserver doesn't find the gdal plugins, so
it must be the geoserver or gdal configuration. Can you please help me?

Cheers,
Max

Which version of GDAL from where?
Note that GeoServer supports GDAL through the ImageIO-EXT lib which has JNI based calls requiring a specific version of GDAL.
Supported GDAL version is 1.9.2 while some users are reporting proper functionality with 1.10 and others.
Different versions may come with different methods or signatures so that the Java to C (JNI based) bridge doesn’t properly work.

I would take a look to the specific section of the GeoServer GDAL’s support related page for more details on the topic:
http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/data/raster/gdal.html#installing-gdal-native-libraries

If i prompt gdalinfo

I would also do a standalone test using the javainfo utility available with the ImageIO-ext native libs.
Also note that we only provide a couple of binaries for Linux. You may need to build your own set.

Hope this helps.

I've downloaded gdal from:

the MrSid-SDK from:
http://bin.lizardtech.com/download/developer/MrSID_DSDK-9.1.0.4045-linux.x86-64.gcc44.tar.gz

and built it with
./configure

Yes, sorry for the bad explanation.
If i create a new imagemosaik datastore i can enter an URL or i can open a
popup dialogue where i can navigate to the directory. Inserting the URL
directly into the textfield with a path like file:///mypictures/ works, but
the published layer is black. Choosing the directory from the dialogue
doesn't work and produces the described "Could not create reader from
file..."-error on hitting the save button.

Max

Hi,

i just wanted to tell you that i finally got it working. The key was to use
the gdal native libs from
http://demo.geo-solutions.it/share/github/imageio-ext/releases/1.1.X/1.1.13/native/gdal/linux/
(1.13 is also the version used in geoerver stable 2.8.1).
After that i only had to ldconfig and everything worked fine.
Thanks Daniele for showing me the right path.

Cheers,
Max
