Geoserver users
I am a newbie in using Geoserver, but would like to use it in a production environment.
This is what I want to do: integrate Geoserver with ArcGIS server - I want to use Geoserver to serve about 405Gig (270 by 1.5Gig scenes) of Spot 5 imagery as backdrop to ArcGIS Server.
Any ideas on how I should go about this:
- Have Geoserver and GeoWebCache in my production server have looked at this link - http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/2.6+GeoServer+in+Production+Environment
- The tiff images would be in a folder - any advise as to whether should I mosaic and create overviews on them - any pointers to documentation around this
- Serve them to ArcGIS Server as a WMS service - GeoWebCache will provide a caching service, thereby speeding my website
Any advise on my solution would be extremely helpful as I think a purchase of ArcGIS Image Server would be a waist.

Why would you need to "save" them to ArcGIS as a webservice?
Geowebcache and Geoserver both provide WMS services.
Are you sure you do not mean integrate the WMS service with ArcMap?
This is possible, although there are some bugs with ArcMap 9.2 that
make it tricky.
Best regards,

Currently we are using ArcGIS server a mapping service from our SDE database, what I would want to do is to use Geoserver to server the images to the mapping service running in ArcGIS server.
Creating of mapping service in ArcGIS server is done with ArcMap or using the web authoring client. Should I then point to my Geoserver WMS at this stage?

Why not publish directly SDE db with geoserver?

Do you mean using ArcGIS Server to combine a raster background served via WMS by GeoServer with some vector layers out of ArcSDE ?
In other words, you would like to use GeoServer as a sort of Image Server for ArcGIS Server, right ?

ArcGIS Server would act as a mere WMS *Client* then. If I were you, I would accurately test the performance of this architecture.

No one is better than Simone&Alessio in doing this: I'll gladfully leave it to them
