[Geoserver-users] Invalid address error

Hi,

Are you going to deploy Geoserver to end users so that they will install it to their own computers to localhost? It can well be that the issue with IE affects only localhost address but if Geoserver is installed to an external address it may be that fiddling with compatibility list is not necessary.

I don’t have Windows 8 + IE 11 to test with, only Windows 7 and IE 9.

Ok,

GeoServer is installed as standalone on Windows Server 2012 using jetty integrated server.

The most easy installation that I can do. I run setup, and give really standard default answer to the different steps of installation process.

The JRE used is the Java 8 release 20

The Internet Explorer version is which is supplied with Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8.1, that is version 11

GeoServer is working fine……but…

When I login to the geoserver portal on the server(http://localhost:8080/geoserver), goes to the workspace management page, I get a list of demo workspaces that are installed by default. I want to clean up and delete all these workspaces.

I select all workspaces and click on “delete link” on top of the page.

In the normal process, a “window” opens that tell me to confirm the deletion (I already saw this windows in previous installation of geoserver)…but in this case, I am redirected to a page whose url is http:/// that contains the “invalid address” error message

I tried to add localhost to “compatibility list” of IE, and now is is working….but now, if I try to add a new workspace, the page is displayed with buttons not set in the correct place on the page…when I tried to update a layer, when I click on the Save button, nothing happens, we stay on the page and does not go back to the list of layers…

So according to the action I want to do (“delete an item” or “adding or updating an item”), I have or not to put localhost in the compatibility list of IE…I just think that it is not a production way to manage geoserver items…

I cannot deploy such product for end-users in such situation…

Please help me solve this problem…

Try to use Firefox or Chrome, none of the GeoServer developers uses IE

Cheers

Andrea

Hi,

When I say « deploy to end-user », I would say better « deploy data published by geoserver”.

The end-user will not see this problem….but to make data available to end-user, some administrators/contributors will need to updated/refresh data using geoserver portal. This is done either on the server using localhost:8080/geoserver url or from their workstation using IP address. But in both cases, these users use company supplied workstation configured with last OS available, that is Windows 8.1 with Internet Explorer 11. Some of them have even Microsoft surface tablet to work on geoserver…

Someone tells me that I could contribute to correct this issue but I am not a developer in such environment. I only develop with Microsoft.NET environment architecture (C#)…so no way to contribute in helping you.

I just surprised that no other customers met this issue…

So I will inform my hierarchy of this situation and we will decide what to do…

Regards.

Eric.
