We're running the etch version of Debian and the gdal plugin for geoserver
has failed to load successfully. According to our server team the plugin
attempts to use a different version of the c library that Debian etch has.
One option is to obtain the plugin source code and compile on Debian etch.
Or upgrade to Debian lenny.
I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the direction of plugin
source code, or if they have compiled on Debian etch pass me the files
[adbailey1 @ qinietiq.com].
I'd also like to hear of experiences using Debian lenny and the gdal
extension for geoserver.
Hi Andy,
that extension is built on top of the GeoTools Imageio-ext-GDAL module which leverages on the Imageio-ext project.
This is the main page of the imageio-ext project: https://imageio-ext.dev.java.net/
In the “Documents & files” section you will find some ODT/PDF documents containing instructions to build Imageio-ext as well as the required libraries (Mainly GDAL).
Finally, the geotools related plugin is available as unsupported module on geotools 2.5.x branche.

Ciao Andy,
I have used the plugin on ubuntu server and desktop as well as on fedora.
I think daniele already gave you pointers to the source code.
You basically have to patch gdal 1.4.4 ( we will soon port everything
to 1.5.3) and then you should be ready to go.
