[Geoserver-users] mailing list for discussions about translations

Hello GeoServer folks,

Sorry for cross-posting but I’d like to discuss, what the community feels about creating a new mailing-list for translation teams.

Status:

  • several languages teams were created
  • translation teams (per language) are growing
  • discussions about the HOW and best practices are taking place at different channels (twitter, google+, Transifex and of cause developer and user mailing lists
  • announcements and calls to review translations are not noticed by the user and developer community at the moment (my fault)

What I’d like to achieve with such a ML (lets say geoserver-i18n):

  • centralize discussions for different translation teams
  • inform translation teams about planed releases and timetables
  • give the whole community kind of status whats going on at the translation front
  • try to answer best practices and workflows for tools like
  • Eclipse IDE
  • Transfex.com
  • [ crowdin.net ]
Before pointing translators to user/developer mailing list (which have a hugh amount of messages confusing non-developers/users) and penetrate this audience with translation relevant tasks and discussions I’d like to get an idea what YOU think about it.

If something is unclear and needs additional explanations, I’ll try to help.

Who would be responsible for setting up an other mailing list?

Thanks a lot
Cheers

Anyone with administration rights on the sourceforge project would be able
to create a SF based mailing list (like users and devel),
which include most of the PSC I believe, or anyone could create a google
group

I concur with Andrea, if you feel it is a good idea we can do it. I also like the idea of inviting translation and release coordination to this list, most of the real developer discussion appear to be on Jira and GitHub at the moment
