[Geoserver-users] Mapbender does not show Geoserver maps

Dear Geoserver-Users,

I have a software-setup as follows: PostGIS 8.2 (Win2K), Geoserver
1.5.0-RC1, Mapbender 2.4 (both Suse 9.2). I want Geoserver to export maps,
which get their data both from the PostGIS-database and shapefiles in the
geoserver repository. Mapbender should join these layers in a single map.
Geoserver displays every single layer properly in his preview but reports an
"unsupportet map projection: EPSG:31467".

If I load the wms capabilities in mapbender, I get the output stated below.
Despite I did all the steps for the map preparation, link wms to gui, create
tree gde etc. I get no map on the gui, just the scrolling-edges in the upper
left corner. The "show wms-infos"-page contains no data. I can't find out
the error in geoserver's or mapbender's configuration. Who knows help?

Hi Tilo,

Is GeoServer displaying your layer that is in the 31467 projection in the map preview page?
If that projection is not supported by geoserver, then you can follow the steps in this link to add a new projection:
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Custom+projection+definition+in+Geoserver+1.5.0+(onwards)

GeoServer supports a lot of projections, but not all. So we provide a means to supply the ones it doesn't have.

This message is coming from MapBuilder, it just won't be able to show you lat/lon coordinates in the upper left box.

About MapBender, I don't know, you may want to ask on the MapBender
mailing lists.

yes, the layer is displayed properly, despite the browser shows the alert. I
suppose there is a misconfiguration between geoserver and mapbender, because
mapbender shows in the capabilities-file the appropriate legend-url's, but
does not show any element of the legend in the gui.

I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting, probably the
capabilities-file of a working goeserver-mapbender installation could give
me some hints or a look in the configuration of an geoserver.

Hi Tilo,
If geoserver is spitting out an error on the map preview page with regards to the projection, that is a bug that only affects the preview page of geoserver (we have a fix for it in the next release coming out).

Is geoserver spitting out any errors in the logs when you try and point mapbender at it?
If there are no errors, some of the possibilities could be incorrect SRS value for the layers, a style that is not rendering anything, or an incorrect bounding box (I'm sure there are other possibilities too).

When I reload the capabilities geoserver makes a log-entry (no errors,
http-status 200 ok), but not when I open the gui.

If there are no errors, some of the possibilities could be incorrect SRS
value for the layers, a style that is not rendering anything, or an
incorrect bounding box (I'm sure there are other possibilities too).

I configured SRS 31467 in the geoserver "FeatureType Editor", but mapbender
shows me in the "WMS GUI Settings" a long pulldown-menue with alternating
EPSG 4326 and 31467 entries. But neither of the selections helps.

The capabilities-link to the legend-items is correct, so I suppose my styles
should work, the maps are also shown in the geoserver-preview. Probably it
could be the incorrect bounding box. How can I proof this? In the
feature-type editor i have the button for calculating the bb, but despite I
use the srs 31467, the edges of the bb are shown in degrees - the srs 31467
is Gauss-Krueger with it's kilometre-measure. When I click in the gui to
redraw the non-existing map, i get the javascript error-message shown below.
Probably there is no data about the bounding-box?

I haven't used MapBender, so I can't guess at what it might be doing with great accuracy.

In the feature type editor, the bounding box always shows at lat/lon, so don't be worried by it.
Can mapbender render any of the sample datasets that GeoServer comes with? Or is it just not rendering anything for any dataset?

Hi Brent,

Can mapbender render any of the sample datasets that GeoServer comes
with? Or is it just not rendering anything for any dataset?

as far as I can see it is not rendering anything for any dataset :frowning:

I am wondering why mapbender loads the capabilities-document but does not
show it in the gui (there is a button "show wms infos").

Besides this I probably have to reinstall mapbender or my mysql-db. I can't
update the capabilities of any external server, like "Germany" from ccgis
because mapbender complains about an sql-error...
