[Geoserver-users] New to Geoserver plz help.

Hi,

I just installed Geoserver, added my Shapefiles, made a group of shape files
as base_map and my map is up and running. Great piece of Software !

Theres one more thing i need to do and so far im lost, i have done this with
google API. Here it goes

1- I got (1:rid, 2:lat, 3:long, 4:info) based records in MySql for different
customers(each having unique cid)
2- For any user who logs in to my web server (Apache on WinXp) i fetch his
multiple (rid, lat, long, info) records (which are updated periodically
according to info) using PHP+Javascript, and display markers on the map
(done in google API). Markers are small ~20px X 20px pngs.

3- Same i want to do with Geoserver. Im sure this is can be done, but since i
dont have the Required expertise in xml or JAVA, if sum1 can give me simple
instructions on how to do this or perhaps a sample script. I will be forever
grateful.
Thanks

Have you looked at Mapbuilder? Mapbuilder is an open source Javascript tool set that will let you do the things you want to do. You install it pretty much the same way as Geoserver and it has an example in there called wfs-t that returns data based on user selections. It will at least get you started.

Good luck!

Well Thanks for the suggestion but i have already tried around a dozen WMS
softwares, and i finally found GeoServer as a decent application and i would
stick to it for a while unless im sure there is no way what i wana do can be
done.
So my help call is still ON.

thanks

I think that what Amy was trying to say is that you stick to geoserver on the server side and use Mapbuilder on the client side…

I understand that , but plz try to understand my point, Google maps
(Mapbuilder) is not for commercial use. and besides Mapbuilder uses google
maps, i already have made my own maps in shapefile format, just need some
way of showing these maps to my customers and ploting markers as i have
mentioned in my first email.

Thanks

MapBuilder and Google Maps have nothing in common, have whole different
licenses. MapBuilder is an open source project. Maybe MapBuilder can add GM layers in its view (I'm not sure about it) but that's but an option.
I suggest you have a look at both MapBuilder and OpenLayers.

Cheers

I can imagine some confusion here.

There are two projects that go with the moniker "mapbuilder"

1) Mapbuilder.net (http://www.mapbuilder.net/)
Google-maps based mashup tool. Web-based mapping using a front-end to the
google api.

2) Community Mapbuilder (http://communitymapbuilder.org)
A javascript toolkit used to build front-ends to various WMS/WFS compliant
servers. In particular it makes a great client application to geoserver.

The suggestion, coderage, is that you check out #2 as a good geoserver
client framework. #1 seems lest relevant in this discussion.
