Is there a solution to getting a collection of GeoTiffs into GeoServer without using REST or the Import Data feature (available only in the Suite)?

adding to Alessio's email.

The standard option is create a quick script using for instance CURL
(it works on both windows and linux) to submit geotiff files to
geoserver.

As of GeoBatch,
that is an external tool that can be used to automate certain tasks.
We are preparing a workshop for it that will be given on the 3rd hence
in a couple of days you'll be able to use the workshop to check what
can be done with it. As an instance it is possible to preprocess and
ingest in GeoServer a bunch of GeoTiff files.
Again, you can achieve something similar via scripting with bash or
bat files + curl and rest interface.
