[Geoserver-users] Not simplify geometry

Hi,

Nothing wrong with your question, for many reasons: a) you are not at all the first one to ask the same b) I am remembering the Andrea Aime was considering to turn the on-the-fly simplification off by default and c) Geoserver is so huge that no single person can know all that it can, or can't, do.

When I see the WMS with a small scale the simplification is very high and there are a lot of holes.
There is a way to not simplify the geometry? Maybe using SLD options.
Thanks in advanced,

Yep,
I’m still considering doing that… it’s just that time is tirant, I just don’t manage to do
everything that I want (let alone what other people would like me to do :-p )

I think that this option (the on-the-fly simplification) is really useful. My problem has been to find this optimization function on the geoserver user manual.

Many thanks or the answer and also for all the work that Andrea do every day

All the best,
R

This thread helped me to solve a problem.
I had a map showing a mixture of small and large polygons with the small
ones styled as points.
After an upgrade to GeoServer 2.7.2 (from which version I don't know) none
of the small polygons were shown.

From this thread I learned that

a. Simplification existed,
b. It is enabled by default.
It took me a long time to discover this though!

Furthermore, when I looked at the user interface, simplification was shown
as disabled. I looked in datastore.xml and there was no entry for "Support
on the fly geometry simplification". I re-saved my datastore settings which
then added an entry to datastore.xml and turned off simplification. This
fixed my problem.

I would venture to call it a bug that there should be a mis-match between
the default appearance of the UI and the default behavoiur of the
application.

Regards,
Jim Bacon.

We have been discussing about turning it off by default, but so far did not
have time
to look into it. There's always something higher priority...

You are indeed right, the default value for a new parameter is not taken
into account when upgrading
from an older data directory.
I would open a ticket at https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/projects/GEOS
(it's likely going to get more
traction than the default value, since it's affecting the configuration of
all stores)

Cheers
Andrea
