I am in need to use a basemap (openstreetmap mapnik) wms service for geoserver/openlayers. All the wms that I have tested won’t work. Could someone give me reference for a wms service available that works fine?

you might try out our free OpenStreetMap WMS. If an EPSG code is mising, just come back to me:
ows.terrestris.de (description in German only)
