[Geoserver-users] osm to postgis data import issue

hi guys,

I have some osm data that i want to import into postgis. I followed the instructions in the “User talkJRA - OpenStreetMap” page . I created a user in postgis with the same name as my windows user. (with no password) (As stated in the instruction the utility connects always with the default user name). I did this but when I ran the command osm2pgsql -d osmdatabasename osmdumpname. I got the following error on my command prompt “Connection to database failed: fe_sendauth: no password supplied” i.e. i think this means i did not supply a password.

How do I resolve this issue ? my windows user does not have a password. Do I have to assign a password to my windows user ? Need some help here.

Thanks,

Roman.

Hi Roman,

You will probably get a better response on the postgis users list. But it depends on how you installed the database. When you installed postgis you should have had to supply a username, password (assuming you used the installer). I dont know how osm2pgsql works... but you should be able to specify a user. If it follows other postgres command conventions it should be -U <user>

Hi,

Osm2pgsql.exe is really lacking all options for database connection, except the name of the database (-d parameter). It is a Windows executable specially made for me by Mr. Artem Pavlenko because I can't compile anything myself nor can I use Linux. It was enought for my immediate needs but I do think that first place for further development of this utility is to make datebase connection adjustable. I believe that the source code is not totally the same than used for a standard Linux osm2pgsql because I asked to add some extra OSM tags to be imported into PostGIS with the Windows version. At least address, URL and historic were added.
The standard source code is here if someone is interested in having a look on it:
http://trac.openstreetmap.org/browser/applications/utils/export/osm2pgsql
Or then one can do as I did and negotiate an agreement with some developer.
