[Geoserver-users] Pass SQL View Param in GetMap POST request

Hi all

When using a parametrised SQL View I realise that key:value pairs can
be passed in a GetMap GET request. However, I am confronted with a
scenario in which I need to pass a geometry (e.g. GML encoded) and the
idea of trying to fit/format it in a URL concerns me.

So, please does anyone know if there is there a way to pass the SQL
View key/values in a GetMap POST request? I could not easily find any
example in the documentation or around the web...

Kind regards

Peter

Hi Peter,
you cannot pass sql view parameters inside the post body, but have you tried putting them anyways
in the url (just those parameters)? I believe at some point we had the ability to handle mixed requests

Cheers
Andrea

Hi Andrea

Thanks for confirming that for me. It is a nice idea but
unfortunately because I am looking at passing geometries of an unknown
size I am not sure I could do it in a standards compliant way (special
characters, string length).

I think I will just write the geometry to a database, return the ID
and pass that in instead

All the best

Peter,
there is also the possibility to make a GET like request by submitting a form.
Just so you know, not sure it’s going to help your specific case (even POST requests
have a size limit, normally configurable in the web container)
