I am trying the initial test of adding a shape file. Go through data store and feature type steps – doing submit, apply, save.
Shape file doesn’t show up in list of layers in the demo Map Preview.
When I go back to config, then datastores or feature types the dates for GeoServer, Configuration, XML are all reverted to June 9.
Hit Load button, which updates to June 25 at config, but when go to data, keeps reverting to June 9.
I see these lines in console.
Processed data store ‘nyc_roads_shapefile’, enabled
Loaded feature type ‘topp:nyc_roads’
Also see this:
log4j:WARN File option not set for appender [geoserverlogfile].
log4j:WARN Are you using FileAppender instead of ConsoleAppender?
Not sure what’s up.

June 9, June 25... where are these dates coming from?
I'm wondering if the operating system is playing tricks on you,
especially if it's Vista. I think Vista is reverting any change
made on the file system under the programs directory, and unfortunately
the GS data dir is exactly there.

Hi,
I discovered the problem may be with internet explorer 7 (on XP).
I get a preview map OK with firefox.
Will be checking IE settings...
June 9 is the release date of the various GS files, I believe. June 25 was the day I was experimenting.
I guess IE is not letting me save the XLM and other files...
