[Geoserver-users] Problems seeding tile cache - very slow rendering

Dear All,

I have Geoserver 2.8 running on Ubuntu 14 as a WAR in Tomcat 7. I am trying to seed the cache for a layer-group. GWC has managed to seed some tiles but it is VERY temperamental and unpredictable. GWC is integrated. I have JAI installed (via “apt-get install libjai-core-java” and restarted Tomcat) but it seems to have zero effect. When I try to seed the cache, the rendering times out (despite having the max rendering time pushed up to 1800 seconds = half an hour!). Looking in on the Server Status, the memory allocated to JAI is shown as 1GB but memory usage never rises above 0 (zero). I suspect this is the crux of the problem as the only error message is that rendering was forcibly terminated because it exceeded the time allowed. I suspect that JAI is not being used even though it is installed.

Any suggestions?

Hi,
you’re giving us pretty much no context about your source data… what are you trying to render?
I assume it’s raster data by your mail (otherwise why bother about JAI), what type of data source,
which size, has it been retiled and overviews been added?

Cheers
Andrea
