[Geoserver-users] Proprietary License

Hello and Good day to you all.

Currently looking for some more information regarding a proprietary license for GeoServer. Seen a Draft on the project page (http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/DRAFT±+Do+I+need+a+proprietary+license+FAQ) mentioning the idea but have not been able to find any good information on it. In the draft contributor agreement I’ve also noticed that there has been some interest in other licensing options so I am aware that what I’m looking for is not unique. (http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/DRAFT±+Contributor+Agreement+FAQ)

What it boils down to is I would like to be able to bundle an unmodified copy of GeoServer with my application with a handful of static layers to supply WMS services to a client without the ability to phone back to our WMS servicesto get our base map as well as other features such as International Boundaries and lakes/rivers. Currently work as a contract entity to the DoD and therefore deliver code but do not have the ability to release it under a GPL license.

Looking at options and I believe i could sell the idea of purchasing a license if I were to have all the information.

Thank you,

Chris,

as far as I know, if you are only using GeoServer alongside other software, you are not required to purchase a commercial license.

Simple aggregation does not cause other software to be affected by the GPL. You are only required to purchase a commercial license if you modify GeoServer and do not wish to publish these modifications, or otherwise do not wish to comply with the terms of the GPL.

Kind regards,
Ben.
