Hi,

If you have the icon file stored in a workspace folder I suppose you have met this bug

Is your style associated to the same workspace, or is it a global one?

If it’s in the same workspace, the icons location should be, as far as I rember:

/var/geoserver_daa_dir/workspaces/myworkspace/styles/icons/…

Hum... nope, this is a different beast. The urls Jody is referring to are
accessible from outside
geoserver, that is, in practice the entire styles directory contents are
available, if you know the name of the files.
The same does not apply to styles and icons in workspaces, but it's a
matter of external accessibility, via http,
not internal one via relative references from styles
