[Geoserver-users] [Re: OGC OpenLS Implementation?]

Hi David, geoserver-users,

Yes, Andrew Hughes did an excellent job implementing the OpenLS spec and Lisasoft would like to roll it into Geoserver.
We are just looking for a paid project or similar which will justify our developer's time supporting and migrating the code. I'm open to suggestions.

Hi David,

I wrote a (Java5+) API for the complete OLS 1.1 spec when I was working for LISAsoft/TerraPages.

http://terrapages.net/opengis-api/

It works excellent, is very simple to use, its fast and it is the complete OLS spec! I can no longer speak on behalf of the company but if nothing has changed, then it is not 'officially' opensourced because no one has adopted it for one reason....

This is the complete OLS spec nothing less and nothing MORE. Specifically if you want to add your own custom content (xml element or attibute), this " Extensibile" functionality is not provided. There is merit to such a requirement but it is also additional complexity that is holding up what would otherwise be an easy (and now working) service implementation.

And FYI: I also co-wrote the service implementations, and clients that use these services. It's amazing how much value you can get out of this specification when its so easy to use!
https://terrapages.net/opengis-xls/

Anyway, the LISAsoft boys are working pretty closely with Geoserver these days and they should notice this thread.

One of the things I would like to do with OpenLS is to set it up to allow the client to send a roadway location (Interstate, direction, milepost) and have the service return the Lat/Lon. We do this now using roadway data provided by our state DOT, but am interested in providing a standards based approach to doing this geocoding. Is this possible with OpenLS? What are the data requirements to us the Lisasoft software to do geocoding? While I cannot make commitments for my company, there may be some interest in paying for part of the transition to Open Source.

Thanks in advance, David

Has any more thought been given to this idea? Any thought on how much of a "paid project" it would take to integrate this into geoserver? Thanks, David Robison
