[Geoserver-users] removing ":80" from GeoServer service end-points?

Dear GeoServants,

While I can access our GeoServer without specifying any port number in the URL, the server is still reporting itself with a “:80” tacked on the end. Do any of you know how to configure things to leave that off? We are running GeoServer through Tomcat on Ubuntu Linux. To give you an example of where I am seeing this, here is an example of one of our virtual Web Map Service (WMS) GetCapabilities:

http://geo.pacioos.hawaii.edu/geoserver/PACIOOS/as_pibhmc_swa_bathy40m_hillshade/ows?service=WMS&version=1.3.0&request=GetCapabilities

When you look at any of the http://geo.pacioos.hawaii.edu URLs listed inside of the above XML document, they always get listed as http://geo.pacioos.hawaii.edu:80 (i.e. with “:80”). Here is a quick example from the top line, but “:80” also appears for all end points throughout the GetCap document:

<WMS_Capabilities version=“1.3.0” updateSequence=“17202” xsi:schemaLocation=“http://www.opengis.net/wms http://geo.pacioos.hawaii.edu:80/geoserver/schemas/wms/1.3.0/capabilities_1_3_0.xsd”>

Is there a way to hide the “:80” part of these URLs through some Apache or Tomcat or GeoServer or other configuration? Not a big deal, but would be nice to squash this cosmetic smudge.

John,

if you set Proxy Base URL in your GeoServer / Settings / Global to:

http://geo.pacioos.hawaii.edu/geoserver/

then your schema and capabilities URLs will be encoded without the :80.

Kind regards,
Ben.
