[Geoserver-users] SDE-FeatureType is not displayed

Dear GeoServer-users

Trying to set up a connection to a ArcSDE 9.1 (based on Oracle 9i) with
GeoServer 1.3.0 (Tomcat war).
Configuring Namespace, Store and FeatureType went fine, I see the
FeatureType (sde:MANAGER.GEWAESSERNETZ) in the preview-list
(http://uwis-yggdrasil.ethz.ch:8080/geoserver/mapPreview.do). However,
when I open the preview itself
(http://uwis-yggdrasil.ethz.ch:8080/geoserver/data/generated/sde_MANAGER
.GEWAESSERNETZ.html), the map remains empty.

What goes wrong, have any ideas on what I should check?

Regards, Bernd

Hey, sorry for the late response.

First off you may try to upgrade to 1.3.3 and download the latest arcsde jar. It had a few improvements.

I just tried your server and was able to get data out as GML, see:
http://uwis-yggdrasil.ethz.ch:8080/geoserver/wfs/GetFeature?typename=sde:MANAGER.GEWAESSERNETZ&maxfeatures=10

So it's definitely connected. Did you make a style for your map? Or at least use a style that would be compatible with your data?

If you get 1.3.3 there's a very basic style wizard, that should allow you to create a very basic style for your data, you may try that. Or just select 'green' or the other line style from the 'default style' drop down when you edit your features.

best regards,

Chris

Hi Hebel,

trying yo figure out what the problem can be without much success.

the following request returns a blank image:
http://uwis-yggdrasil.ethz.ch:8080/geoserver/wms/GetMap?LAYERS=sde:MANAGER.GEWAESSERNETZ&BBOX=620000,205999,655000,217999&WIDTH=400&HEIGHT=300&FORMAT=image/png&STYLES=default_line

but it is obvious the datastore is throwing out features since WFS works just
fine. The layer default style also _seems_ properly defined since
GetLegendGraphic returns a sensible image with a line.

Sending a GetMap with an inline SLD document doesn't seems to work also.

So there are two things you can do to help us find out what's happening:

1- send us the sld document you're using for the default_line style
2- set the logging level to FINE and send us the log file, or at least the
portion related to the above getmap request

regards,

Gabriel

Hi Gabriel & Chris

I now upgraded to version 1.3.3 and used the latest arcsde.jar, but this did not bring any success. I seem to obtain even worse results as before, since the sensible image wouldn't show up any more. (By the way, this version seems to work worse with mozilla than the 1.3.0, the use ie seems to work fine!)

Answers to your questions:
1- I use the green.sld as delivered with the war-installation (as recommended by Chris)
2- FINE log: see attachment (short portion containing a request on the sde-featureclass)

I hope, you will have any helpful hints for me... many thanks for your effort!

regards, bernd

geoserver.log (32 KB)

It looks like the bounds are off? I see this in the log:

VERSION=1.1.1&REQUEST=GetMap&SERVICE=WMS&SRS=EPSG:4326&BBOX=0,90,0,90&WIDTH=180&HEIGHT=103&LAYERS=SDE:MANAGER.GEWAESSERNETZ&FORMAT=image/png&STYLES=&TRANSPARENT=TRUE&UNIQUEID=

And then a warning about a zero area envelope. It should be 0,0,90,90. Are you filling out the bounding box on your own? Or using the 'generate bbox' button? Or did you make that request by hand?

best regards,

Chris
