I have used the Java Service Wrapper on GeoServer 1.5.1 (both under Windows Vista and XP SP2), as described in http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-370 , however on rebooting either OS, the Service although apparently installed and visible, refuses to Start. Attempts to start it manually also fail. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter or solutions?

I have found the solution to the problem. The GeoServer Service will NOT
start with a LogOnAs "Local System" which is the default behavior. In
Services, the "LogOnAs" field defaults to "LocalUser". This must be changed
by selecting Services->GeoServer->Properties->LogOn->This
Account->Browse->Select User. Then type in the account profile name of an
Administrator on the machine, then select the "Check Names" button, select
the <MACHINE_NAME>\<Administrator> and select the "OK" button. In the
"GeoServer Properties" window, type in the <Administrators> "password" and
"Confirm password" fields.

Interesting. Do you still have the geoserver logs for the startup that
failed? We may use them to understand what went wrong with Local System.
Oh, you cite 1.5.1, but was it working with 1.5.0? Or you did upgrade
directly from 1.4.x?
Cheers
Andrea
Actually the wrapper.log file I had sent you previously was not valid. I
originally had an incorrect JAVA_HOME env var set but I fixed that problem
yesterday. I just cleared the log and reinstalled the service. Not the log
remains empty except for several KB's of the white space char.
