[Geoserver-users] Shapefile Publishing

Hello Geoserver-users,

I am currently producing shapefiles to publish into Geoserver containing several different feature types (that is, each shapefile contains measurement data such as temperature, pressure, etc). Is there a way to expose multiple layers from one shapefile, so that each feature type can be displayed? If so, how? Or do I need to re-configure my shapefile production to put each feature type into an individual shapefile?

Thanks,
David Marks

This begs the question, how do you intend to get multiple layers out of one
shapefile?
It's like a single table that you want to filter over some attribute?

Correct. One layer would be the temperature field, the next the air pressure field, etc.

In GeoServer 2.8.x you can publish a the same layer many times (as in
previous versions) and
add a cql filter to each, s that they extract different sub-layers out of a
single data source.
However the shapefile has not (yet) a alphanumeric indexing, so to get all
the air-pressure
points, all points have to be read, which is not exactly efficient, unless
your data sets
are pretty small

For this use case using a spatial database with proper indexing is
preferable, but splitting
the single shapefile in N separate files will also do.
