[Geoserver-users] Showing Heatmap - Openlayers

I Created a heatmap from a sql point table using sld in Geoserver.

Displays fine as a preview but only displays as a tile in html.

Have tried singeTile and a few other things.

Can people please suggest other things to try??

Cheers

Tim

Hi,
I believe there is nothing else to try, heatmaps by their nature cannot be computed
in tiles, they have to be computed for the whole area you’re looking
at, each time, since they are a visualization relative the current map
contents, from a density value ranging from 0 (no data) to 1 (area
where the current max density resides, and which will change every
time you pan and zoom).

I’m not sure, did not do a detailed research, but believe any algorithm
that is tile-able will have to drop one of the desirable features of
the heatmap, that is, lose the ability to show the “hottest” areas
within the current visualization.

Cheers

Hi,

I did some testing with a GeoMesa backed layer with heat maps and can confirm that the heat map works best as a single tile. We use OpenLayers 2.13.1. When I use tiles and set the meta tile to 4 (default), I get individual tiles for the heat map that are close, but there are obvious issues. This prompted us to modify our OL application to request the layer with a heat map SLD applied as a single tile.
