Hi list,
as I mentioned earlier, I have started to work on some SLD files to generate maps with a Google Maps feeling. You can find a preview here:
http://gestadieu.free.fr/blog/?p=48
It is far to be perfect and complete but it is on the way and I will try to update them later with things like road number and so on (I need also to review some sld to make them all consistent). Most of them have been generated with uDig first and them manually edited. I don't know whether it can be useful for some people. You can download what I have done and if you thing it can be useful I will put them on Geoserver wiki, but currently I still not sure whether it can be useful for anybody so I keep them on my blog. Feel free to let me know if I am missing things.
One thing I do not know how to reproduce is the label following the path of the road, I use LinePlacement / PerpendicularOffset but it does not make what I see on one of the tutorial in Geoserver documentation. Am I missing something here?
Gerald
That's excellent Gerald!
People will definitely be interested in your SLD files. If you would like us to start a page on the wiki for you we would be glad to help.
To make the road names follow inside the road, I believe you just have to add this to your rule (after <font></font>):
<LabelPlacement>
<LinePlacement>
</LinePlacement>
</LabelPlacement>

Looking at his SLD he's already got that, I think he wants it to really follow the road, which I don't believe we've implemented yet. MapServer will do this, perhaps we can borrow their algorithm.
Gérald, what is the tutorial example that does what you want? I think your streets may just be more curved, and your street names longer, so it just doesn't look as nice.
And your work will certainly be useful. Mike is also working on some google maps SLD stuff, I think it would certainly be helpful to have a wiki page about what people have done. I just created a basic page: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Google+Maps+SLD
Feel free to throw up the stuff from your blog there.
