[Geoserver-users] SLD references

Hi folks,

just wondering if there are any good SLD tutorials/references that people use. Right now I’m using scattered examples and the XSD. but just wondering if people knew of very good online documentation (or books) of writing SLD’s.

thanks

Ale

I am working on an SLD Cook Book, a collection of "recipes" for simple styles. I haven't had any time recently to work more on it, although a coworker is helping me now, and we have most of the content locally. Will be here when completed:

http://docs.geoserver.org/1.7.x/user/styling/sld-cookbook/index.html

In the meantime, you could always read the not-completely-painful SLD spec from the OGC.

Thank you so much.

George, currently I am using uDig to look at what properties my shapefiles have ( I am using Tiger shapefiles ). I am attempting to write SLD’s for the 2008 Tiger shapefiles to make them look like:

http://sigma.openplans.org/

I looked at this reference:

http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Geoserver+and+Google+SLDs

But the SLD’s in the tutorial don’t work with 2008 Tiger shapefiles at all it seems. For example:

gen_full

“gen_full” doesn’t exist at all in the 2008 lines shapefiles.

Another thing is that these SLD’s use:

ogc:PropertyIsNull
ogc:PropertyNamestatehighway</ogc:PropertyName>
</ogc:PropertyIsNull>

To figure out which lines are state highways, but when I look at the shapefiles it seems that the only way to get state highways is to look at the MTFCC ( with a value of S1100 ).

Was that tutorial written for completely modified tiger shapefiles? It mentions

" but I wanted to build something more general that could be used for (mostly) out of the box Tiger data".

However this does not seem to be the case at all.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

You could work through the second half of lecture 5 of my web mapping
course (http://www.e-education.psu.edu/geog585/l5_p4.html).
