[Geoserver-users] SLD variable substitution not working when used under <ogc:PropertyName>

Hello

Can we use the ALD variable substitution to dynamically tell which propertyName to use for label

for example

sld:Label
ogc:PropertyName
<ogc:Function name=“env”>
ogc:LiterallabelField</ogc:Literal>
ogc:Literalroom_number</ogc:Literal>

</ogc:Function>
</ogc:PropertyName>
</sld:Label>

i have tried this and not working

Please help

Regards

Murad

Hi Murad,
could you try with:

sld:Label

<ogc:Function name=“env”>
ogc:LiterallabelField</ogc:Literal>
ogc:Literalroom_number</ogc:Literal>

</ogc:Function>
</sld:Label>

My reasoning is that sld:Label must contain an expression, and ogc:Function is an expression.

Hope this helps.

Hi Murad,
PropertyName cannot contain an expression (by spec), but there is a filter function that can do
what you want, it’s called “property”:
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/filter/function_reference.html#feature-functions

So the SLD would look like:

sld:Label
<ogc:Function name=“property”>
<ogc:Function name=“env”>
ogc:LiterallabelField</ogc:Literal>
ogc:Literalroom_number</ogc:Literal>
</ogc:Function>
</ogc:Function>
</sld:Label>

This should allow you to choose the property you want the label to display from the GetMap URL

Cheers
Andrea

I would not expect that to work, since PropertyName takes a literal string (well an xpath expression), rather than an general expression.

Consider using an if expression to choose between different propertyNames?

any other suggestions

Two:
1) Keep the mails on the mailing list :slight_smile:
2) At this point I'm afraid some code debugging is needed. I can point you
to the relevant classes if you want?
