[Geoserver-users] startup problems with 1.7.3

Hi Kris

Yes, I already stopped Tomcat, then removed the existing geoserver-devel.war and geoserver-devel directory and the geoserver-devel directory from work/Catalina/localhost/. Shouldn’t the “update sequence” on the upper left corner of the UI go back to zero?
I works with the default geoserver directory…?

regards
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I just deployed 1.7.3 on my local tomcat and having no problems at all.

Is it possible that an old version was installed and is bothering you now.

If you put the war in the webapps dir make sure you stop tomcat first and delete the expanded (geoserver directory in webapps) version and also remove the geoserver directory from work/Catalina/localhost directory (or similar)

Then start.

Hope this helps

Kris

Subject: [Geoserver-users] startup problems with 1.7.3

Hi
I’m not able to run the latest GeoServer (1.7.3) with a different data directory. I set the data directory in the web.xml and restarting Apache Tomcat results in this error:

2009-03-11 08:24:16,455 WARN [geoserver.confg] - Error occured loading service: wms
2009-03-11 08:24:17,632 ERROR [context.ContextLoader] - Context initialization failed
org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name ‘wmsConfig’ defined in URL [jar:file:/usr/l
ocal/apache-tomcat-5.5.25/webapps/geoserver-devel/WEB-INF/lib/wms-1.7.3.jar!/applicationContext.xml]: Instantiation of bean failed
; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.BeanInstantiationException: Could not instantiate bean class [org.vfny.geoserver.c
onfig.WMSConfig]: Constructor threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.NullPointerException
at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.ConstructorResolver.autowireConstructor(ConstructorResolver.java:254)

The data directory is copied from a different server where GeoServer 1.7.2 is running.

We are using Apache Tomcat 5.5 on a Linux machine and there is already an old GeoServer running. So I renamed the new one to geoserver-devel.war. Any help is appreciated!

regards
Stefan

The update sequence should stay the same if you are using an existing data directory. As Kris states I would ensure all temp directories are removed. Also if you could include the entire start up log that might help us spot the problem.
