The lines are clearly connected in the unstiled case, I believe your SLD is missing some highway category.
You can find which ones by clickling on the missing links in the simple blue line style version, in the preview,
and inspect their attributes

Could you make a GetMap request on exactly the same area, but with the two different styles, in order to allow a side by side comparison?
Also try to check your data with a different tool, e.g., qgis, and see if the gaps show up there too

Do you have a small screenshot of the problem?
If you use a simple line style, are the lines connected? If so, try to click on the bits that
are missing in the other view and see if their attribute match what you have in the database,
it might just be that the style is incomplete
