[Geoserver-users] Time dimension on 'Edit Layer' page is disabled!

Hi,
Could anyone tell me how to enable the Time Dimension on edit layer page? On
my Geoserver when I try to enable it I am getting the following message;

"Cannot enable, no attribute of type Date found"

Thanks

Ciao,
I believe the message carries along the answer, there is no time
available plugin in your layer.

Can you give us more information about your data and your objectives.

Hi,
Thanks for a quick reply.

We would like to select the layers/rasters for a specific or a range of
dates in a WMS request. FYI, we are storing GeoTIFF images (Landsat etc.),
but we haven't decided yet how to ingest the data in Geoserver in terms of
layers.

We are not sure whether the date time is in the GeoTiff, however we have
this information in a database.

I really appreciate your help.

Kind regards,
Pritimoy

Ciao,
you might want to use an ImageMoisac with a TIME dimension for doing this.
Some info below:

Hi, I create a shapefile with this field in Qgis:
name of field "time" with this:
"format_date('2001-12-12T18:00:00.0Z','dd-MM-yyyyTHH:mm:ss.0Z')"
I upload the shapefile in Geoserver but I have this message: Time dimension
on 'Edit Layer' page is disabled!
could someone helps me?

Hi Laura,
the time dimension gets disabled when there is no date or time attribute.
I’m guessing that what you did in QGIS produced a text attribute, since there is no Timestamp
datatype support in DBF (not in the official one at least, some variant like I believe foxpro one
had it), only has date (as in the day).

If you need full support probably best stay away from shapefile and use a geopackage instead.
If you need reasons to try out shapefile, there is a web site enumerating them (yes, quite
opinionated, to the point of being fun):
http://switchfromshapefile.org/

Cheers
Andrea
