[Geoserver-users] Transparant background of WMS using Geoserver/Google Maps & Drupal Gmap module

Right now, I'm expermenting using the Gmap module in Drupal where I'd
like to add a Geoserver WMS-service. I have done this succesfully but
how do I get a transparent background of my WMS ? Is this done in
Geoserver or Google Maps. I'd like to overlay my layer with the 'map'
of Google.

In the stuff I played with: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Google+Maps I did the transparency stuff in google maps api - I feel like I tried with wms transparency and didn't get it to work. Also check out: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Drupal
Eduin, cced, may have some advice, as he worked on the gmaps module.
(and I just remembered I need to commit his 1.0.1 version of gs-wms.js, sorry!)

Chris,

Thanks for answering so quick. I assume you refer to the folluw up
message posted in here:
http://drupal.org/node/78586

It's quite confusing. I have a working setup with Geoserver, but the
WMS is placed under the map object...actually this working setup is
done with an older version of the gmap module. I assume the 1.0.1
script will handle it ok.

Yesterday I have tried with a blank setup using the latest version of
Drupal, latest Geoserver and latest Gmap-module. For now I get a gray
screen return when I follow the instructions of the Geoserver-Drupal
documentation.

Hi,

Just in case... do you know that PNG transparency does not work in
Internet Explorer?

Have you tried in other browser?

Javier.

Javier,

yes, I did that. I tried Firefox but with no result. Maybe if the WMS
wouldn't be placed under the map object it would work...
thanks for your suggestion !

Hello folks.

Yes Chris, please update my changes to the script at
http://dist.codehaus.org/geoserver/gmaps-geoserver_scripts/wms-gs-1_0_1.js. At
the moment it is posted here: http://sig.cas.gov.co/misc/wms-gs-1_0_1.js

Some users had reported strange behaviours with the old wms-gs-1_0_0.js and the
latest commits of gmap module.

Regarding to PNG transparency... nothing to do. Versions previous to IE7.x do
not support that thing. Some people had exploited a function of IE6.x called
"filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader" to get it work
using javascript, (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobosola/) . Voluntaries to
include it into wms-gs-x.js are welcomed. In a ideal world all our users would
use Firefox, the best navigator. But this day is so far.

I will review gmap/wms module code next weekend to trace possible errors.

sorry for taking so long, things have been crazy.
