I just added two new community modules that might be of interest to other GeoServer users. Use the links to goto their respective wiki pages.
WFS GetNearest Plugin - This plugin adds a GetNearest request type to GeoServer’s WFS. The wiki page is at http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/WFS+GetNearest+Plug-in
Line Merger PostGIS Plugin - This plugin is used to merge individual features into a single feature. We use this to merge multiple features that comprise a single roadway into one feature for the roadway. This is very helpful in labeling roadways. The wiki page is at http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Line+Merger+PostGIS+Plugin

Great work David, thanks for the contribution.
Random thought. These things fall into the realm of WPS. Hopefully at
some point GeoServer will get a WPS implementation. I see it being
extremely useful for people to be able to contribute little processes
such as these.

Yep, I'd very much like to have WPS around, me too
Cheers
