[Geoserver-users] v1.3.1 & Postgis

Developers…

Kudos on the GeoServer v1.3.1 release. I’ve been doing some performance testing with JMeter connecting to a Postgis datasource and there is a very dramatic speed increase over GeoServer v1.3.0. In my testing the speed increase is in the 60-70% range!! I believe David Blasby is the one responsible for the majority of this speed increase (http://www.nabble.com/Speeding-up-PostGIS-WMS-t1428799.html#a3853632), thanks a lot David!

The only downside to all of this is that the release notifications for v1.3.1 sell it short (in my opinion). Perhaps the release notification could mention some of the improvements in geotools 2.2 that affect GeoServer so dramatically as I don’t think most of us are aware of these improvements?

Regards,
Corey

woa, awesome!
Yeh I guess we weren't totally aware of the speed increase (all thanks to Dave Blasby).

Thanks for sharing this with us Corey, I will remember to put it into the next release, which should be soon.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I need to do some serious PR for the release, Brent just squeezed it out the door in time for Where 2.0, and I was busy all leading up to it so I didn't have a chance to really announce. He even forgot that there's a new SLD editor. I think we're going to do a 1.3.2 release, get the recent changes on to trunk, do caching, and do a real announcement and perhaps even a press release of all the great new stuff. There's also another 10-20% to be done on a fix that Dave did that I had to take out of the last release since it caused a major bug, but I think with a bit more work I can get it back in.

doh!
SLD editor

lol, yeh forgot that one too!

Everyone give it a try. It's part of the feature type editor. Simple, but a starting point for something really cool.

That's what happens when you pull 16 hour days :stuck_out_tongue:
