[Geoserver-users] VendorOption ruleEvaluation

Hi there,

Trying out the CSS plugin, I come across the VendorOption “ruleEvaluation”. This would mean, that I could only use the generated SLD using GeoServer, right? Is there a way to configure the CSS plugin in order to generate an SLD document that doesn’t have any vendorOptions unless specifically added, e.g. “-gt-label-auto-wrap”?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Edward

Hi Edward,
the short answer is that no, we cannot in general remove that option because the translation
would not be correct anymore.

The long answer is that we could remove it, at the price of paying extra performance cost during evaluation (so it
should be optional) but only in the “Exclusive” and “Flat” translation modes, as described in this document:
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/extensions/css/cascading.html

“Flat” is available only on trunk at the moment, and it does not have the extra vendor option already,
but you kiss goodbye cascading, “Exclusive” is available on 2.8.x too, but I have seen CSS styles
that take 2GB of memory and one hour of computation to correctly translate to SLD in that mode (tens of
rules deciding different details of one style against an orthogonal set of filters based on 5-6 variables).

Cheers
Andrea

Andrea,

Thanks for your reply! Fully understand it cannot be removed for the general case: that’s why I asked for a configuration option. Flat or exclusive would just fit my use case. I’ll look into it.

Cheers,

Edward
