I am trying to get a VPF file set to display on geoserver.

I tried to convert the VPF to shape file using NIMAMUSE 2.1, but I get the following errors when I try and access the data

I would really like to be able to use this data. Can anyone help?
Best thing to do is probably to use ogr2ogr to convert to shapefile or postgis. The vpf datastore isn't really production quality. You could make a .prj file yourself, it sounds like nimamuse just leaves it off? I believe it's epsg:4326, so you actually could just grab a .prj from somewhere else. If you go to the states shapefile that comes with geoserver (data_dir/data/states/states.prf) it will have a .prj file for 4326, so you can just rename it to the same as the one you converted.
Or use ogr2ogr, and specify for it to use 4326. Or follow the directions we have up to convert to postgis: http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Loading+VMAP0+data
