Thanks Nuno,
geoserver36.war is the old prebuild version found on
http://3dwebgis.di.uminho.pt/sources/.
After some back and forth with 32 and 64 bit Java
geoserver_windows7_64bit_test.war seems to run. Thanks for the prompt
assistance!
Is there current work on the W3DS implementation? We want to use W3DS
for an archaeological 3D WebGIS together with X3DOM/WebGL.
Is it possible to integrate also X3D files as layers with the W3DS
version, analogous to the integration of shapefiles?
Thanks again
frank

Hi,
What is geoserver3D.war ? If it is some pre-build of Geoserver with the
community W3DS module enable it is probably outdated.
A colleague build the current (master) version of Geoserver with W3DS
community module enable. We try it using:
- Windows 7 64 Bit
- Apache Tomcat 8.0.12
- JDK\JRE 7_60 64 Bit
And all worked fine.
I upload the Geoserver.war we build to my dropbox if you want to give a
try:

Hello 3d people,
the W3DS community version of geoserver (geoserver3D.war) does not run
under Windows 7 64 bit. I have installed Apache Tomcat / 8.0.12.
Geoserver3D is listed in the Web Application Manager of Tomcat. But when
I try to start geoserver3D I get the following message: "FAIL -
Application at context path / geoserver3D could not be started"
Under Win XP geoserver3D works fine on Apache Tomcat / 8.0.12.
Does anyone have an idea?
Best Regards
Frank

Welcome.
Is there current work on the W3DS implementation?
Recently the support to XML3D format have been added by the guys from
http://cyberlightning.com. They may take the lead of the module but I
don't really know the current development status ... someone else ?

Currently you can't but seems to be a nice idea ... but at this time you
can reference you X3D as a model in the SLD
