I have some world-file-georeferenced images in a directory, and I want to make a single coverage out of it: is it possible ? And how ?

Hmm.... I thought it to be a fairly basic question: really no-one can answer this ?

Ciao Luca,
sorry, but I missed the previous email.
The wcs branch should do what you need. I just implemented a plugin
for putting together a mosaic of georeferenced images.
These days I have been sick and I have not been at work. If you have a
bit of patience tomorrow I will write a more detailed email on how to
configure the ImageMosaic plugin and I I will also prepare an example.
I hope this is enough for the moment.
Simone.

Many thanks.
By the way, I have a couple questions more:
1) Have someone tried such a plugin with, say, 25GB of images (TIFF with world file) ?
2) Will the WCS support be released into GeoServer 1.4 ?

I remember vaguely that you already checked out the svn for the WCS
branch. If so, you can just update your local SVN copy. Could be as
simple as running "svn update", but that depends on your setup. Did
you, for example, use eclipse or the command line svn client?
Or am I way off in what I remember?

By the way, I have a couple questions more:
1) Have someone tried such a plugin with, say, 25GB of images (TIFF with
world file) ?
Well the answer is no but it really should not matter. Let me explain.
I assume that you are talking about hig res imagery, probably aerial
photos. If that is the case you won't be interested in showing all the
25 gb at a time but you will be interested in showing probably 5 or 6
tiles at a time. The way the plugin is built allows me to load only
the requested tiles from the all data set, hence playing with max
scale you can easyli have good perfomance even with a huge data set. I
have played around with 600 mb of data with an high scale and things
were pretty fast.
Of course the plugin will be improved by using for example overviews
in order to allow you to use less stringent limits for max scale, but
for the moment this was the most I had time to do.
2) Will the WCS support be released into GeoServer 1.4 ?
I am a bit suspicious about the 1.4. I am going to ump in the
discussion this afternoon with a long email since I think that maybe
we are not spending all the enrgies in the right directions.

Yeah, I know the tiling trick... what I really meant was: has the WCS been tested under real-life conditions ?
The fact that is still labeled "experimental", makes me wonder if it could be used in a production environment.
