Hi all
If I download a shapefile using a link like this: WFS export link
<http://maps.gcc.tas.gov.au:8080/geoserver/GCC_cc/ows?service=WFS&version=1.0.0&request=GetFeature&typeName=GCC_cc%3ABuildings&maxfeatures=50&outputformat=SHAPE-ZIP>
the resulting shapefile has a huge DBF file associated with it. This is due
to white space padding for 255 length char fields.
Is this an issue that only I am having, or is it a GeoServer problem? I can
export the same file using org2ogr on the server, and it results in a
shapefile with char field lengths which are the same as the PostGIS table
backing it.
Regards,
Alex

Hi Alex,
There was another post a few days ago asking something similar. From that it doesn’t look like GeoServer can currently do this, though it would certainly make sense for the filesize reason.

Can someone open a request for improvement on jira.codehaus.org?
Cheers

Done. https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5694 - hopefully that covers it.

Hi Andrea
I’m not a member at jira.codehaus.org, so could someone either join me up or add the feature request for me?

I’ve opened a bug report against codehaus for the inability to register:
