Great! It's really sophisticated.
I just saw your conversation with Till. That's interesting because i will soon start a new project to publish scanned and georeferenced development plans. I wanted to set it up as WCS because i could use mosaicking and image pyramids. Does the GS-WMS use the underlying pyramid/mosaic-functions of the WCS when i request the rasterlayer in WMS or does it just show a cutout from the whole bitmap?
I was also searching for a tool to build the pyramid/mosaic and found the coverage tools with a description here http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Image+Pyramid and also a description here http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Load+NASA+Blue+Marble+Data for using the gdal tool. I will first try the coverage tools and give you some feedback.
Best wishes
