Hello all,

we are displaying wind barbs on maps using the windbarbs graphic symbol and rotation in the sld.

So far we only used the Mercator projection where it works correctly, but we encountered problems with other projections like the polar stereographic. In this case the rotation of the windbarbs is incorrect. Specifically for the polar stereographic projection the correct rotation can be calculated by adding the value of the longitude coordinate. We would also need to support other projections.

There was a similar question on the mailing list: https://sourceforge.net/p/geoserver/mailman/geoserver-users/thread/009e01cd3294$2b238870$816a9950$@com/

Here Andrea proposes that a generic solution to add a new filter function that would compute the correct rotation regardless of the projection might be possible.

My questions:

1. was this function implemented?

2. if no, could you please give us some pointers on how to approach this? What classes to look at and also tips for the computation would be very appreciated. Depending on how complex the solution is we might try to implement it.

best regards,
