I am new to geoserver, and was able to set up the server, import TIGER polygon shapefiles, and overlay them on google maps using the sample code and tutorials. However I have been struggling for several days to import shapefiles I found on the Massachusetts gis site that have town polygons. I am using epsg 2249, and I have tried both reprojecting to 4326 using ogr2ogr, and also specifying 2249 in the feature type editor in geoserver. In both cases the coords for the bounding box are correct, but the layer does not appear on the map (although it does render in the mapPreview.do screen). Does anyone have any advice for debugging this?
