[Geoserver-users] WMS Polygons as PointSymbolizer - missing points

Hi all,

I'm encountering something strange when trying to display a polygon layer from Postgres as a WMS using a PointSymbolizer (testing using default "point" sld).

The link to the preview is below:
http://www.salford.gov.uk/geoserver/wms?request=GetMap&layers=NE:v_point_display_test&styles=&width=512&height=445&srs=EPSG:3857&format=application/openlayers&tracker=20150312-Testing&bbox=-253000,7057000,-207000,7096000

There is a total 237 polygons features all within the initial viewport, if you zoom out the 4 points that are displayed should disappear, and if you zoom in more should appear.

Any ideas why they're not all being displayed all the time? I know it will be difficult to discern between the points when zoomed out, but at present it looks like there are no features.

Many thanks,

Rob

This is probably due to the generalization in postgis, you can turn that
off at the datastore level.
It's a known issue that relates to a known problem in PostGis own
ST_Simplify implementation:
https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-4737
http://trac.osgeo.org/postgis/ticket/2093

But as said, you can just turn off the postgis simplification machinery at
the store config level

Cheers
Andrea

Andrea,

Thanks that was it. I’m guessing that presently there’s no way to turn it off layer-by-layer and has to be done at the datastore level?

Cheers,

Rob

Correct. To do that we'd have to do some coding both at the geoserver and
at the datastore level
