[Geoserver-users] WMS with complex features

Hey.

I have a question regarding showing complex features with WMS. I created
some complex features that are chained together. These are shown nicely with
WFS but with WMS, well there are some complications.

- One of the problems is when you click on a point to show its information,
there are alot of empty fields (metaDataProperty, description,
descriptionReference, identifier, name, boundedBy and location). As far as I
checked, this is because of <extension base="gml:AbstractFeatureType"> in
the XML schema, but without this extension the complex features do not work.
So the question for this is, do I need to use a different extension (so
something else than gml:AbstractFeatureType), or is it possible to somehow
disable these fields to not be shown in WMS.

- The last problem is with styling. Simple definition of style, like color,
size, etc... seem to work. Something like adding a name to be shown at the
point ends with this error "The requested Style can not be used with this
layer. The style specifies an attribute of name and the layer is:
tst:complexfeature"

With some searching on the forum I found this
http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Application-schema-and-WMS-td3795248.html
<http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/Application-schema-and-WMS-td3795248.html>
. I know it's and old thread but are complex features still more ore less
only for WFS?

Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Matic

Matic,

app-schema WMS should work, but because the built-in styles and GetFeatureInfo support are focussed on supporting simple features, you may need to supply your own styles and freemarker templates to support your complex feature types. See the examples here:
http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/data/app-schema/wms-support.html

Kind regards,
Ben.

Ben,
thank you, managed to solve the second problem with styles based on those
examples.

Now I only need to find a solution to the first mentioned problem.

Hi Mark,
Have you tried this:

The data is sourced from elsewhere, but seems to be a fairly rigorous walkthrough.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Yes I tried that first, unfortunately the windows version doesn't seem to work and I don't have a linux server available as his table structure is very different than the one from geofabrik
